Film Trail

The cinematic history of Podkarpacie is shaped by the names of outstanding filmmakers, ranging from Józef Lejtes, through Jerzy Hoffman, Andrzej Wajda, and Jerzy Janicki, to Wojciech Smarzowski and Jan Komasa. This narrative unfolds across charming towns, villages, and untamed landscapes.

It is a history written in diverse genres, distinguished by historical epics, war films, westerns, and contemporary social dramas. Although the heart of the film industry beats in the center of the country, and locating a production in the far south-eastern corner poses logistical challenges, creators have always been drawn to the region's most photogenic and cinematically appealing spots. This is also the birthplace of legendary Hollywood figures like Fred Zinnemann and Sam Spiegel.

Launched in 2020, the Podkarpackie Film Trail serves as a comprehensive guide to the region's cinematic heritage.

Its mission is to foster film education, promote Polish cinema and its creators, as well as to document and share the locations and stories behind regional productions. The initiative features an annual, in-person film event comprising screenings, Q&A sessions with filmmakers, panel discussions with film critics, and guided cinematic walks. This is complemented by year-round educational and informational activities conducted online.
