Wooden Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, Chotyniec

An incredible wooden temple from 1615. It survived the war without major damage and was restored at the end of the 20th century. Naturally, it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The structure easily inspires awe both from the outside and the inside. It is a single-nave building, topped with domes on drums. The church is surrounded by wooden arcades (soboty). Next to it stands a wooden, 17th-century tower bell tower (relocated from another village).

The entire complex – including the relics of a former cemetery – is surrounded by a fence, beyond which lies another active cemetery. Old-growth trees grow on the hill. The interior of the church in Chotyniec features a restored iconostasis (probably from 1671) and polychromes (including "The Last Judgment") from 1735 and 1772.
