Before the jump

2021 marked 20 years since the biggest achievements of Adam Małysz. In 2001 the ski jumper from Wisła won the Four Hills Tournament and a world championship in ski jumping. Those events inspired many boys and girls to dream of a sports career. What remains of that national fascination with ski jumping? The film "Before the Jump," being shot this fall in the Podkarpacie region, will attempt to answer this question. It will be a documentary that will explore the activities of the ZKN Sokół Zagórz sports club. The film crew has already filmed at the Zakucie facility. The filmmakers want to show a wider audience that ski jumping is possible not only in the Tatra Mountains but also in the Bieszczady Mountains. Warsaw-based ZK Studio is responsible for the film's production.

I witnessed Adam Małysz's successes as a little boy. "I remember perfectly the euphoria that gripped the entire country," says the film's director, Mateusz Gołębiewski. "I remember equally the cars pulling up to ski jumps around the world and the sleepless nights watching World Cup competitions in Japan. I wanted to take a closer look at what remained of that enthusiasm." What motivation do young ski jumpers have to pursue this (though dangerous and difficult) sport these days? Especially in an area not known for ski jumping. It's a shame. After my first visit to Zagórze, I could already see that it's a place perfectly suited to this sport," he adds.
