In the beautiful Pustków near Dębica…
The film tells the story of the forced labor camps established during World War II in the town of Pustków in the Podkarpacie region (from 1940). Their operation was inextricably linked to the existence of the SS Truppenübungsplatz Heidelager military training ground in these lands.
Based on estimates, it is estimated that approximately 7,500 Jewish prisoners, 5,000 Soviet prisoners, and 2,500 Poles perished there as a result of biological destruction, executions, and shootings. The bodies of the victims were burned on a cremation pit located atop "Queen Mountain" (now "Mountain of Death").
Through the stories of former prisoners, the film depicts the reality of the camp, the nightmare of daily life, and the struggle for survival. Local regionalists provide historical context. The memory of the thousands of victims is preserved thanks to the existence of the European Centre for Remembrance and Reconciliation, whose staff also narrated the documentary.
