Cold War
The creators of the Oscar-winning Ida take us this time to the 1950s and 1960s — to Stalinist Poland and a Europe coming back to life. Against this backdrop unfolds the story of a great and difficult love between two people who cannot be together, yet cannot live without each other. One of the film’s main protagonists in Cold War is music itself — a blend of Polish folk music, jazz, and songs from the Parisian bars of the past century.
The leading roles are played by Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot, Agata Kulesza, and Borys Szyc. Paweł Pawlikowski serves not only as the director but also, together with Janusz Głowacki, as the screenwriter.
The production design was created by Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński, while the cinematography was by Łukasz Żal. Filming began in January 2017, with locations not only in Poland but also in France and Croatia.
The film is a Polish–French–British co-production. The Polish producer is Ewa Puszczyńska of Opus Film, and the distributor is Kino Świat.
