Corpus Christi

“Corpus Christi” is a story inspired by true events about a young man who, after being released from a juvenile detention centre, impersonates a priest. The lead role is delivered in a tour-de-force performance by Bartosz Bielenia (“On the Edge”), regarded as one of the most remarkable acting discoveries of recent years.

The cast is completed by talented actors of the younger generation — Tomasz Ziętek (“Silent Night”, “Convoy”) and Eliza Rycembel (“Promise”, “Carte Blanche”), alongside Gdynia Film Festival Best Actor award winners Aleksandra Konieczna (“The Last Family”) and Łukasz Simlat (“Amok”), as well as Leszek Lichota, the leading star of one of Poland’s most popular TV series, “Wataha” (“The Border”).

The screenplay for “Corpus Christi”, awarded in the Script Pro competition, was written by Mateusz Pacewicz. Cinematography is by the acclaimed director of photography Piotr Sobociński Jr. (“Volhynia”, “Gods”, “Traffic Department”).

“Corpus Christi” is an exceptionally original project within both Polish and European cinema — a bold production that touches on taboo subjects, addressing social divisions and the complex spirituality of young people. Inspired by real events, it tells the story of 20-year-old Daniel, who undergoes a spiritual transformation while serving time in a youth detention centre and secretly dreams of becoming a priest.
